After growing up on a cotton plantation in Northern Louisiana and graduating from LSU, I packed my bags and drove straight to my favorite place on earth – COLORADO -– to put down some roots and see what I could offer this world.
That was back in 1991. Colorado Springs looked mighty different back then, but I love it as much now as I did then.
After marrying the love of my life, Steve, and bringing four beautiful girls into this world, my life has been VERY FULL! I have taught piano lessons for the past 22 years and in the past 3 years discovered a new love in teaching the younger population and their caregivers. My girls are now branching out on their own. Elizabeth lives in Connecticut with her wonderful husband, Jared and baby boys Jedidiah and Clay. Abbie lives in Austin, Texas. Rebekah has graduated with a Social Work degree from CSU and Sarah is taking the world by storm.
I spent 5 years on the staff at The Colorado Springs Conservatory. This was a very rich time of growth as a teacher and musician. During my time there, I got certified by Lynn Kleiner to teach early childhood music classes. In 2019, I decided to form my own school and teach these classes to families and their pre-school aged children on the North side of Colorado Springs and Mountain King Music School was born. This name came from the children’s book I wrote in 2013 while teaching Kindergarten music at The Classical Academy. It is based on the music of the same name by Edvard Grieg.
